OUTDOOR TRANSFORMATION CONCEPT
Two conceptual terrace projects exploring how existing outdoor spaces can be reimagined as more contemporary, functional and inviting extensions of the home.
The projects are presented as design concepts, developed to visualize the potential of each space before moving into detailed design and execution.
Outdoor Transformation Concept
Spatial concept · Material direction · 3D modelling · Visualization
This conceptual proposal transforms a compact terrace into a welcoming and highly functional indoor-outdoor space. The design enhances spatial organization, carefully selects materials, and incorporates tailored furniture to foster a deep sense of comfort and connection with the surroundings. By prioritizing the reuse of existing elements and introducing subtle, intentional updates, the space achieves a harmonious and cohesive aesthetic.
A terrace added to an interior space dating from the 1980s, combining a compact kitchen and dining area with an enclosed outdoor space.
The existing layout offered good potential, but the materials, finishes and separation between indoors and outdoors made the space feel dated and disconnected.
Focused on a light transformation, the proposal maximizes the existing kitchen layout instead of replacing it. Cabinets were updated with a fresh blue or green tone, worktops were replaced, and new grey concrete-effect resin flooring seamlessly connects the interior to the terrace.
A white ceiling enhances natural light, while replacing the window and door with a single folding glass door creates a fluid connection between the kitchen, dining area, and terrace.
These minimal, intentional changes deliver a brighter, contemporary space.
Outdoor Transformation Concept

This conceptual design proposal explores turning a spacious terrace into a seamless extension of the interior living space. By prioritizing spatial flow, natural elements, tactile materials, and refined ambiance, the project establishes dedicated zones for outdoor living and relaxation that remain deeply tied to the home's interior.
This larger terrace runs across the full width of the apartment and connects directly to three important areas of the home: the living room, kitchen and master bedroom.
The main challenge was to give this large terrace a clear sense of purpose while maintaining a cohesive connection with the apartment.
To connect the large terrace with the apartment, the layout creates three distinct functional zones: a quiet coffee corner, a dining space with a bar, and an intimate family living area.
Arranged along the terrace, these zones ensure a natural flow between the living room, kitchen, and master bedroom.
First, a cement resin flooring was selected to unify all spaces while providing an easy-to-maintain surface. Second, a versatile metal pergola was designed to provide shelter and shade. Minimalist metal planters positioned along the glass parapet accommodate low-maintenance greenery.
Conceived as the main family relaxation area, this space incorporates a generous L-shaped sofa ideal for daily interaction. A contemporary electric fireplace introduces ambient warmth, while a flexible metal pergola provides adjustable shade. Sleek metal planters set along the glass parapet host low-maintenance Mediterranean flora, such as lavender.
The second zone is conceived as an informal dining area, complemented by a small outdoor bar.
The aim is to create a practical and welcoming setting for meals, drinks and gatherings, while keeping the design light and visually connected to the surrounding terrace
Finally, the corner area is designed as a serene retreat for daily outdoor moments—whether reading, enjoying morning coffee, or taking a brief respite.
Comfortable seating and a refined, tranquil ambiance foster a space that seamlessly connects with the broader terrace while preserving its distinct character.
A vertical pergola was incorporated to ensure privacy while facilitating the integration of greenery.
