Hospitality Interior Concept
A compact coffee shop concept designed to transform just 3 × 8 metres into a flexible space for coffee, work, exhibitions, music and evening drinks — while preserving the client's love for vintage character and existing pieces.
THE CHALLENGE
The challenge was to create a versatile coffee shop and bar within a space just 3 metres wide and almost 8 metres long, while providing enough seating for different uses throughout the day.
The concept combines a café, flexible workspace, small product exhibition area and intimate night bar, all within the same compact footprint. The design preserves the existing bookcase and chandelier, incorporating them into a warm vintage-inspired atmosphere that reflects the client's personality and love for antique pieces.
Every element was carefully considered to maximize flexibility, from the perimeter bench and foldable tables to acoustic treatments, layered lighting and the reuse of the existing exterior doors and windows.
THE TRANSFORMATION
MAKING EVERY METRE WORK
The narrow 3 × 8 metre footprint required a flexible approach to seating and circulation.
A continuous perimeter bench maximizes seating without taking up unnecessary floor space, while foldable tables can be used for working, dining or enjoying a drink — and easily tucked away beneath the bench when more open space is needed.
The result is a layout that can adapt throughout the day, from a morning coffee and laptop to an evening drink with music.
CREATING A WARMER ATMOSPHERE
The existing bookcase and chandelier were preserved as key elements of the space, reinforcing the vintage character requested by the client.
The bookcase was enhanced with warm LED lighting and geometric wallpaper inspired by 1970s patterns inside each niche. Acoustic panels were introduced along the long wall and ceiling to reduce echo and create a more comfortable sound environment.
A deep burgundy ceiling and warm, dimmable wall lighting bring the different elements together, creating a cohesive atmosphere that can shift naturally from daytime café to intimate evening bar.
A contemporary industrial atmosphere created through polycarbonate panels, reused metal, and concrete resin flooring — achieving durability, cost efficiency, and a modern aesthetic without demolition.
CONNECTING INDOORS & OUT
The existing iron-framed doors and windows were preserved and repainted in the same deep burgundy tone as the ceiling, creating visual continuity between the interior and exterior.
High tables and stools were added outside, offering a flexible setting where guests can sit, perch or simply enjoy a drink while standing.
Together, these small interventions extend the café experience beyond the interior while maintaining the warm, vintage character of the concept.
